New feature: Dividend tracking and analysis

Since 2019, TradesViz trading journal has provided a way to let traders track:

A lot of these features are being offered as separate platforms that cost anywhere from $20 to $100 per month to traders, but all of the above have existed within TradesViz for years now at price you would probably not believe.

We're now adding another valuable tool to this list: Dividend tracking.

This has been a long-requested feature after the account balance tracking. As trackers started to experiment with different investing and trading styles, it became evident to us that this needed to be available on TradesViz.

If you are on TradesViz and are using another subscription for dividends, this will save you some money every month as all the essential dividend features are already here on TradesViz - you don't need to use any alternative! Let's explore.

You'll find the dividends tracker tab under the "Tools" section on the left side of your dashboard:

After launching you will see 2 charts at the top in the same row and then two tables at the bottom. We will explore each of these elements. For now, here's what a filled dividend tracker dashboard looks like:

The chart at the top left shows you dividends earned per day (bars) and also cumulative dividend income (line). The pie chart on the right side shows you a breakdown by symbol. This is interactive just like the chart you see on the pivot grid page. Here's an example:

All the tables are also filtered based on the selected symbol and the reverse is also applicable (if you filter on the table, charts will change!).

The first table will show you per-symbol stats. This includes total earnings, open shares left, approx. monthly/yearly earnings etc., and also the total earnings from all dividends so far in the title.

The next table is for individual transactions. This is where you can view each dividend transaction, and edit and delete them.

You can add dividends by clicking on the "Add dividend" button at the top navbar.

Adding a dividend is manual just like how you add deposits/withdrawals, but we are hoping to make it automated based on your feedback (how you want it to be automated).

A single dividend entry contains:

  • The trading account to which the dividend is added to
  • Symbol
  • Shares
  • Dividend per share
  • Currency of dividend
  • Notes
  • Frequency of dividend

You can also bulk add dividends where you can format all the rows in an Excel sheet in the format we provide and then paste it into the bulk entry area.

You can add dividends for ANY symbol - it's not limited to just the supported exchanges, but really ANY symbol. Internally we have mapping for each symbol based on currency, but that should not affect your ability to add dividends of multiple currencies from across the world!

Once added, you will see the charts and tables immediately populate. This is just like adding a manual trade but with this system, we are creating the base to add more advanced dividends tracking and analysis features in the future.

That's all you need to know about the new dividends feature on TradesViz. It's extremely simple and the goal is to make sure you can track every aspect of your trading within TradesViz itself without having to pay for or use other tools.

In addition to the stats, charts, and tables above, you will see dividends used in 2 other sections. One is on the overall statistics page (Summary > Overall statistics) and the other is on the equity curve page (Summary > Equity curve).

In the screenshot below, you will see a new row (3rd) in the PnL section of the overall statistics showing you the total dividends, total account value with unrealized/dividends, etc., All of these new stats are now also available via the custom dashboard

In the equity tab, you will see a new checkbox to include dividends.

This completes the full integration of dividends into all the essential summaries of the TradesViz dashboard. Like every other feature on TradesViz, the dividend tracker will also undergo a lot of improvements as we hear more feedback from you

We have more exciting features coming soon to make TradesViz a complete all-in-one trading partner for you no matter where you trade from.
